What is Pilates?
Pilates is the short name for “The Pilates Method of Body Conditioning”
which Joseph Pilates called Contrology; the science of controlled
movement. This method of education teaches the necessity and benefits of
the harmony of body, mind and spirit. Pilates is comprehensive. Every
exercise is a step to total integration of the body systems.
How long will it take for me to see a difference in my body
exercising with the Pilates Method?
To put this question in perspective, how long did it take to get your
body into the shape it is currently in? If it takes half that time to
see a change, then you would be ahead. However, The Pilates Method of
Body Conditioning works considerably faster than that. Joseph Pilates
said, “You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions,
and have a completely new body in 30 sessions.”
If you discount a bit for 1940’s advertisement puffery, there is
sufficient archival film and current video record to make a very good
case for the claim.
Is Pilates a complete workout? Do I need anything else in combination
with my Pilates training?
It is a complete workout.
Is Pilates safe with lower back problems?
As with any physical training you should have medical clearance. It
depends on what kind of lower back problem you are talking about. If the
Instructor is apprised of your medical condition then a properly trained
Pilates Instructor will be able to take you as you are and deal with any
of those issues, so you can work out safely.

Your weight is a result of your diet and how much or how little you

contrary your weight will reflect the balance between intake of food and
exercise.
How many times a week should I do Pilates?
Joseph Pilates recommended three times a week. If you only do two times
it is better than one and if you only do one it is better than none.
Will Pilates improve my golf (soccer, baseball, any sport) game?
Just like a tune up improves the performance a car you can expect
similar results in your body. You will become the very best you.
What will I feel after the first session?
You will say afterwards, “It was not what I expected at all!” Because it
is like nothing you’ve ever done before.
